Berger is committed to being an environmental leader; we embrace our responsibility by integrating environmental considerations in all that we do—from the restoration of harvested peat lands to the reduction of plastic waste used for packaging. When we were the first in North America to introduce large format packaging, known as the Skyscraper, we were the first in the industry to drastically reduce plastic waste.
The Berger team also cares about the wildlife found in the peat bogs. Each peat bog is prepared with the greatest respect for the environment; we take extreme measures to protect the natural habitat of the many species of vegetation and wildlife found in these bogs.
In addition, as new peat bogs are being opened, Berger is undertaking the restoration of bogs that have been harvested throughout the years. This involves bringing the peat bogs back to their natural state as a wetland.
Certified Peatland Management
Berger is certified VeriFlora® - Responsibly Managed Peatland, an agricultural sustainability certification and eco-labeling program recognized as the gold-standard in the floriculture and horticulture industries. The program is administered by SCS Global Services, a global third-party certifier of environmental, sustainable, and agricultural product quality claims. Certification takes into account the following elements:

- Protection and conservation of ecosystems
- Conservation of resources and energy efficiency
- Integrated waste management
- Equitable working conditions
- Benefits to the community
