For Evan Nelson, owner\/grower at Neosho Gardens in Council Grove, KS, it\u2019s precise timing, attention to detail, and reliable growing media. \u201cIt\u2019s all about keeping everything running smoothly,\u201d he says. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr>\n<div class=\"wysiwyg-row\"><br \/>\n<div class=\"column-5\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-14804\" src=\"https:\/\/www.berger.ca\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/12\/DSC8043-scaled-e1765901133447.jpg\" alt=\"Evan\" width=\"1024\" height=\"695\" \/><br \/>\n<\/div><\/p>\n<p><div class=\"column-7\"><\/p>\n<h3>From Humble Beginnings to a Thriving Business <\/h3>\n<p>From a small seven-hoophouse plot purchased by his father Eric in 1981, Neosho Gardens has grown into a thriving multigenerational family business. Today, Evan and other family members lead 40 full-time staff across 18 acres of growing space, producing spring bedding, vegetable transplants, hardy mums, and holiday poinsettias for independent garden centers and landscapers throughout Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. <\/p>\n<h3>Better Roots, Faster Finishing <\/h3>\n<p>Neosho Gardens has relied on Berger products for more than 25 years and currently uses BM4 Natural Fiber &#8211; Wood HP.  \u201cOverall plant health is what matters,\u201d Evan says. \u201cThe growing media is consistent. I always know what I\u2019m going to get from batch to batch.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The switch to NF Wood products from a traditional peat-perlite mix brought additional advantages. \u201cWe found that it holds more water, so we don\u2019t have to water as often. With direct-stick propagation, cuttings make better contact with the media than old perlite mixes. That contact is really important because if they don\u2019t make good contact, they dry out too quickly.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><\/div><br \/>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wysiwyg-quotes\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;font-size: 14pt\"><br \/>\n<strong>Evan also noticed improved root development. <\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cThe roots finish out better because of the aeration. That allows us to finish crops a little faster if we need to. So, there are savings beyond just water. Fertilizer and water use are both lower, and the plants are just healthier overall.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"color: #f2f1e6\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<h3>Growing Is More Than a Business: It\u2019s a Calling <\/h3>\n<p>One of Evan\u2019s favorite parts of the business is designing spring combination planters. \u201cI\u2019m really proud of the combination planters I design in the spring. I order all the components and put them together myself. It\u2019s one of my favorite things to do.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>As the season shifts to holidays, poinsettias become a major focus. \u201cThey are demanding, but that\u2019s what makes them rewarding,\u201d Evan says. \u201cWith BM4 NF HP, the plants root consistently and grow strong.
