Soilless-grown strawberries are a growing trend in North America, offering better control of pathogens, efficient water use, and extended growing seasons. While coir is widely used, peat-based substrates have proven to deliver excellent yields and fruit quality. Locally produced and water-efficient, they are an ideal choice for sustainable strawberry cultivation.

R&D Project Manager

François-Simon Robert, an agronomy graduate from Laval University, has expertise in soil sciences and horticultural production. After managing greenhouse tomato and pepper crops, he joined Berger in 2018 as an R&D project manager. His focus is on optimizing the use of wood fiber in growing media and developing substrates for soft fruit crops. Known for his precision agriculture advice and knowledge transfer activities, François-Simon has presented at international conferences and was honored with a “40 Under Forty” award in 2024 for his contributions.
