At Berger, we truly care about the evolution of the industry, whether through the development of new growing trends or more efficient growing methods. That’s why we are committed to taking part in research and supporting initiatives that stimulate the involvement of the next generation of industry leaders through sponsorships and partnerships.
Inspiring sponsorship
The high school in the town of Cabano, located in one of the lowest income regions of Québec, Canada, has carried out a revolutionary school horticultural project.
Undertaken with a view to increasing student motivation and social implication, this initiative accomplished so much more by establishing an ongoing collaboration between young people, educators and the entire Cabano community.
Created and maintained entirely by students, the two greenhouses and outdoor garden total over 1,300 square feet of growing space and produced almost six tons of vegetables in 2017.
This abundant harvest has found many uses, from providing afternoon snacks to the school’s 400 students, to feeding families in the need and supplying community kitchens. The initiative has been an enormous success in terms of both educational goals and social impacts: the school now offers a new academic concentration in horticulture and the environment, and a third greenhouse is planned.
